Quality assurance in the environmental construction of filling stations

MAB Powertec is increasing its expertise in the handling and storage of liquid fuels. Our project managers Niko Raami and Markus Merta participated in a course on quality assurance in environmental construction at filling stations.

The construction and operation of filling stations are subject to a number of regulations and requirements – for example, in terms of environmental protection and quality assurance. Other important requirements are fire, explosion, electrical and operational safety, to name a few. The sector is particularly susceptible to change, as “the challenges for the contracting and maintenance of filling stations are constantly increasing as systems become more technical and complex,” (Finnish Petroleum and Biofuels Association).

The course focused on the legislation and standards related to filling stations, which help all parties involved in the construction of the filling station to be aware of the applicable requirements in environmental construction. The requirements include, for example, quality assurance during construction, such as soil compaction, sealing structures and tank installations, as well as keeping records for matters of environmental importance. The quality assurance report ensures that the station and the related work steps are in accordance with the requirements. Continuous measurement and monitoring ensure that the station is operating as planned and it helps in preventing possible damage. “The course included a lot of information that is useful in our projects. In addition to the filling stations themselves, the things we learned can also be widely applied to other industrial sites, where, despite some differences, the requirements are largely the same as at filling stations. The course strengthens our expertise in the field of high-quality environmental construction,” says project manager Niko Raami.
